HeadMouse: Arduino Based Computer Mouse for Disabled
Have you ever thought of controlling a computer with your head? I do.
A large population of the world suffers from many forms of physical
disability. This community of people lack the major access of this modern
resource: COMPUTER. Computers operate with human input through physical means
that is required for response like the most important input required is used
with keyboard and mouse using a hand. And these people lacking this ability
hinders them from accessing the technology leading them to suffer.
This project is a wearable
computer aiding device that helps a person with physical disabilities to access
a computer as a HID mouse. This mouse uses human head movement and breath input
to mimic the features of a computer mouse hence makes the user access computer
without use of hands. The mouse uses accelerometer and Sound sensor to capture
our head movements and breath inputs for
mouse movement and clicks respectively. The sensors are fed into a simple low
powered microcontroller that works on
the simple mathematical algorithms with out C Program to translate the motion
into two dimension motion.
The design was developed as a headphone to be weared bt the user and
operated. There are many devices in the market that offers this functionality
but comes at very high extravagant cost. Our project has reduced the cost
tremendously with offering the same powerful functionality.
The orignal prototype was developed my Nishanth Kumar from Coimbutore for Google Science Fair 2015. I further took and developed his idea to wireless functionality using Bluetooth.
